Reflecting on life with 2 toddler boys

July 25, 2016

Now that my littlest will be turning 2 in just a few short weeks, has got me thinking a lot about being a mommy to these two loves of my life.♥mom, motherhood, toddler, toddlers, kids, parents

{ Baby Mason turning 2 on August 21st! }

I’ve been thinking a lot about my job as a mom lately… These sort of thoughts/questions have crossed my mind, like:
How am I doing thus far with these two?
What could I do to be a better parent?
Gosh, how time is just flying by!
What am I cooking for dinner?
Liam starting pre-k in a few weeks….whaaaat!?
How am I going to handle the first day, or even first week of pre-k?!
What new memories should we, as a family be making?
How will I schedule my days with one child in school now?
How could I make my time with Mason special while his brother is in school?
Am I ready for baby #3? Yes, I said THREE!!
I’m so tired.
I need a manicure. ha-ha!
How can I manage my time better?

Ok… so that list should give you an idea of the GAZILLION thoughts running through my head everyday.

First off, I feel like I’ve been thinking this way mostly because I’m coming into a new chapter in my life: Mason turning 2 & Liam starting school. Both are BIG to me!
I know most moms have these similar thoughts too. As a stay-at-home-mom { #SAHM }, I think I can be pretty critical of myself. Am I doing enough? Am I doing too much? Should I just leave all that mess in the kitchen and worry about it later? Should I take a shower now or later? Did I read, play or laugh enough with the kids today?
Was I too impatient? Did I lose my cool too much? How come Liam keeps hitting his brother? Am I doing time-outs correctly?

Obviously there’s no perfect guide to parenting book, otherwise I’d be all over it (all parents would). Everyday is different. Everyday is a struggle. Someday’s are great + someday’s are…well, just crappy! Even with help during the week.
I know all I can do is my best, bust sometimes let’s face it, my best feels like, WTF AM I DOING?!IMG_7443

And then you factor in that I’m trying to keep up with my fitness, look half way decent for my husband, cook dinner and everything else that goes in to keeping a marriage happy & a house a home. And of course that precious little thing called ALONE TIME. You remember, the time you can have to do whatever the hell you want! Every mother I’m sure can relate.

As a parent you get certain things down. And the rest of the time you’re just flying by the seat of your pants – haha!IMG_7261

So long as my kids are healthy + happy, I will keep trying my best, (even when my best isn’t good enough). Parenting is the greatest challenge EVER, but with the best kind of reward. These beautiful, perfect little humans you created will one day function in society as kind, polite, generous, smart, capable people. I learn so much about myself as the days, weeks, and years pass as a mom than ever before. What else can I really do? Just take it day-by-day. Remember to take little snap shots in my head and store those memories away. Take the challenges as they come. And pray I (we) don’t mess up too badly along the way! IMG_8043IMG_7744IMG_7848

My Must-Haves for Babies/Toddlers

June 16, 2014
In preparing for baby #2, I got to thinking: Since my first was a newborn, what do I continue to use/like now that he’s 1 1/2? As new moms we go crazy buying and registering for everything (it’s part of the fun & excitement of it all)! But we soon find out- babies/toddlers need only basics. They are just as often happier banging around your pots & pans in your kitchen, than they are with the 85 toys you have in their play room.
So besides the obvious essentials you need when preparing for your first, second, or even fourth child…I put a list together of some products & items that I use on a daily basis & think that every mom should have (& keep until you know your done having kids). I’m lucky I can re-use a lot because I’m having another boy, but there are definitely items I have to buy for his nursery {more on that later}.
It’s about finding what you & your baby/toddler are happy with & sharing your discoveries with other mommies! ♥
{Baby Cottons PJ’s, Boppy nursing pillow, Cloud B Tranquil Turtle, Aden & Anais/Restoration Hardware stroller blanket, PBKids ‘shark’ bath towel, Virgin-Unrefined /Organic Coconut Oil, California Baby hair product, SheaMoisture Olive & Marula Baby Head-To-Toe Lotion,
Bath Products: Babyganics shampoo-bodywash, California Baby bubble bath}

The List:

California Baby Products:  Chemical-free products made with aromatherapy oils (I mostly use their Bubble Bath & Shampoo/Body Wash).

Baby Cottons PJ’s:  These are by far my favorite brand for newborns & up! The footies, playsuits, bodysuits, blankets and accessories made of 100% Peruvian pima cotton. They are a bit pricy, but worth it!

Coconut Oil:  I’m a HUGE fan & user of coconut oil in my house. I use it for many, many things, including my baby’s skin. If you haven’t heard yet: coconut oil has infinite benefits! Use it to help heal cradle cap, dry/sore nipples from breast feeding, rashes, moisturize baby’s skin, etc.

Sophie the Giraffe:  My son doesn’t use this teether anymore :( but he did love it. I’ve kept them for when my second baby is ready.

Stoller Blanket: It’s an obvious item, I know! But it’s great to mention to always have many of them. My favorite ones I’ve had monogramed. Make sure to have lightweight ones for warmer weather, and thicker/plush ones too. My favorites are from Aden + Anais and RH Baby & Child.

Tranquil Turtle:  I bought this for my son a couple of months ago and he loves it! I put this on when it’s bedtime, & its so soothing. It projects this serene (adjustable) blue water effect. It also offers two calming sound choices: gentle melody or whispering waves.

Born Free Bottles:  After I was finished nursing, I started using these bottles. They are great! They are BPA free, the bottles feature ActiveFlow Venting Technology which is clinically designed to reduce colic and gas and allows the baby to control the mild flow for an experience closer to breastfeeding.

The Natures Lullaby Collection I CD or Download from iTunes:  My son LOVES this soothing music (and me too). We still play it EVERY night. This collection of favorite lullabies is complemented by the restful sounds of mother nature. It’s the best! Find it on iTunes or buy the CD.

Cute Bath Towel (PBKids):  I love their hooded bath towels!

Swing:  Another obvious must-have! I like the swings by: 4moms & Ingenuity. The 4moms swing makes movements that mimic the way you move. Ingenuity swings have a bunch of cool features like, Smart phone connectivity that lets you personalize entertainment, electronic mobile spins and glows, swing rotates at 180 degrees in 3 swing directions and more!

Good Baby Monitor (Summer Infant):  Because I will be having 2 babies under 2, I still need a baby monitor. I want to upgrade from the monitor I have now to the Summer Infant Dual View Video Monitor System. Benefits are for parents with multiple children or multiple rooms. It features two pan/scan cameras with zoom and two-way talk-back.

Professional Photographer:  This is a MUST! Start hunting for a professional photographer to capture all your family memories when you’re pregnant. Even if taking maternity photos isn’t your cup of tea, you will want a photographer once your baby is born and thereafter!

Inglesina Fast Table Chair:  I avoid using the high chairs that restaurants provide whenever possible (yuck!). I purchased the Inglesina chair when my son was able to sit up on his own, & I have used it ever since. It’s portable, compatible with most tables, comes with its own carrying bag that’s attached, it’s washable & has a maximum weight capacity of 37 pounds.

SO there you have it…my must-haves! What are your favorites for your baby/toddler?

I first discovered this brand when I went to take my son to get his first hair cut. My son has a lot of soft-wavy hair. I wanted to try this product to see if his soft waves would be maintained throughout the day. I purchased the “Natural Curl Calmer,” from their line for soft, smooth waves & curls.
I have to say, I’m really pleased with this product. It has a lovely scent, it does not leave his hair crunchy or stiff, and his waves look nice throughout the day.
I really love the fact that this product is FREE of all ingredients that may be harmful to your baby/child and their hair or skin. And BONUS, for any of you looking for a great product FREE from any allergens too like, Gluten or Soy that may irritate your child!
