Current Favorite Organic Skin Care Products | Acure, Evan Healy + Coola

July 29, 2016

Favorite Organic Skin Care ProductsI’ve been using these products from 2-6 months. Long enough for me to see the difference in my skin and be able to talk about them with confidence.

These organic skin care products have become part of my everyday ritual.

What I LOVE about organic skincare, besides the obvious, better-for-your-skin answer. Is that these specific brands are not only better for your skin, but also for the planet, are cruelty-free, and chock-full of fresh & pure ingredients.

Evan Healy Sea Algae Serum

{ Sea Algae Serum, $39.95USD }

Just like the farm-to-table concept, Evan Healy incorporates a plant-to-skin sourcing philosophy. This brand works directly with farmers, plant distilleries & tribal villages. Not only to make wonderful hand-crafted beauty, but also to help sustain these villages, women + children, and farms. So essentially if you buy Evan Healy products, you’re not only going to have better, more beautiful skin, but you’ll be a part of something bigger!

This serum is MAGIC! Hands-down the best eye product I’ve tried so far. That’s a big statement coming from me. It has amazing ingredients such as:

…”fresh raspberry leaf extract, known for its skin firming effect, Hyaluronic acid, which holds moisture to skin forming a protective barrier. Seaweed, algae, and sea buckthorn berry oil combine to firm and nourish, Gotu Kola supports the body’s synthesis of collagen, and connective tissue maintenance…” (Click the link above to find out more about what these pure ingredients do)!

Though it has “serum” in its name, it has more of a milk consistency to me. It sinks directly into the skin, so I never have a greasy or thick creamy under-eye area, which you know is a nightmare to put concealer over! I also feel an almost instant firming feeling…every time. Which to me suggests it doesn’t lose its potency. And I’ve also noticed a brighter & firmer eye area. Seriously…THE BEST!

{ Day Cream | Normal-Dry Skin | $16.99USD }

ACURE has quickly become another favorite of mine. This sustainable company similarly uses plant and food-based ingredients to get real results. ACURE’s Mission is simple- …”feeding your skin properly as you would your body internally is the only way to optimize its function…”

I use this day cream for those days that I know I’ll be staying in at home, or when I need that extra moisture. It has a lovely citrus scent. It can be worn day/night, and under make up too because although it’s very moisturizing, it is not thick or greasy feeling.

{ Seriously Firming Facial Serum (oil), $19.99USD | Rosehip Oil, $10.99USD }

I started with these oils from the line first, and then I was hooked. After I saw and felt the difference of skin I was convinced to keep trying more from this brand. Besides my occasional hormonal break-outs, my skin has never looked more healthy.

I mix 1 drop of each oil into the palm of my hands, and apply these oils every day/night.

Rosehip oil balances the oils in your skin because of its low pH. It also contains essential fatty acids and vitamin E. The Seriously Firming Facial oil, contains rich antioxidants, organ oil, borage oil and cranberry. All of these ingredients work together to help revitalize the skin, restore moisture, soothe inflammation, and get rid of free radicals.

{ Brightening Vegetable Peel, couldn’t find on websites. Use Facial Scrub. | Brightening Facial Scrub, $9.99USD }

I couldn’t find this peel anywhere, I’m sorry! BUT I found it at my local Whole Foods market. If you, can I suggest you look for it there. If you have sensitive skin and never got along with peels, then you must try this one. I found that It’s gentle, yet effective in brightening, clearing and smoothing my skins texture.

Okay, so I love using this scrub! It smells like kale & lemons- haha, but totally worth it (the natural scent doesn’t bother me)! It contains sea kelp and lemon peel to gently exfoliate your skin, and French green clay removes oil and impurities. My skin looks & feels squeaky clean after I use this 3 times a week. I’m ADDICTED! It’s good for all skin types.

Deep Steep

{ Body Butter, $10.95USD }

Deep Steep, is one of my favorite go-to natural brands for the body. Specifically, I enjoy the Body Butter, Bubble Bath and Sugar Scrub. It’s like a luxurious treat when I use Deep Steep to take a bubble bath, or to moisturize my skin. The scents are beautiful and subtle. Never overpowering. (Deep Steep products are formulated with no phthalates, parabens or chemical preservatives. Non-GMO, gluten-free, 100% vegan and cruelty-free).

And finally, COOLA is my favorite plant-based, non-toxic sunscreen brand. Sunscreen, as you should already know, is important all-year-round. Not just in the summer.

COOLA Rösilliance Organic BB+ Cream

COOLA Organic Skin Care

{ BB+ CREAM, $52.00USD| Shade: Medium/Dark }

I have been blown-away by the Rōsilliance™ SPF 30 BB+ Cream. I’ve finally found the perfect everyday sunscreen for me! This moisturizer is lightly tinted. It has a lightweight serum texture, that just sinks beautifully into my skin. I notice it also helps even my skin tone and it also gives my skin a hydrated glow.

Gluten-Free Asparagus Frittata

Gluten-Fee Asparagus + Tomato Frittata With Parmesan, Spinach + My ‘Secret Seasoning’

October 08, 2014

Gluten-Free Asparagus Frittata

Frittatas have always been one of my favorite meals to make + eat for breakfast (or even lunch).

They are super simple to make, and full of flavor! You can literally whip up a frittata with any of your favorite veggies (if you don’t like asparagus)  – and it makes for a very satisfying + healthy meal.

I usually make my frittatas gluten-free (GF) and/or paleo friendly << find out more about what a Paleo diet is here. This Asparagus + Tomato frittata is GF, but not paleo because of the parmesan I added. If you omit the parmesan, then voila…you have a paleo meal too!

Frittata Ingredients

I like using Grape tomatoes for this recipe. This type of tomato just bursts in your mouth when you take a bite into your piece of frittata. Another good choice of tomato you may use is the Roma.  The ‘secret‘ ingredient I use for all my egg recipes is Shakshouka seasoning. WTH is Shakshouka you say???

Shakshouka Seasoning

{Bomb-ass Shakshouka seasoning!}

Shakshouka, traditionally is a poached egg dish in a spicy tomato sauce often seasoned with peppers, cumin, chili, garlic + onions. I came across this seasoning at Whole Foods Market (in the spices aisle). Now I can’t make an egg dish without it! It really kicks-up your eggs + adds a unique flavor. Use as much, or as little of this seasoning as you like. Because this frittata uses tomato + egg Shakshouka, is the perfect complement to the dish! I hope you enjoy (recipe below).

3 Favorite Superfood Smoothies {Great for Expecting/Nursing Moms too!}

May 28, 2014
I’m a BIG health-smoothie-makin’-kinda girl (during my pregnancy especially)!
I try to make a nutrition packed smoothie at least 3 times a week.
I’ve been making healthy smoothies consistently for 2-3 years now. I usually rotate between a few basic recipes (like, my go-to: coconut water or unsweetened almond milk, kale and/or spinach, banana and some kind of frozen fruit).
But when I’m looking for inspiration or want to change it up, I refer to the ultimate smoothie book, written by Julie MorrisSuperfood Smoothies.
{This book features 100 nutrient-rich recipes packed full of antioxidants and vitamins.}

A few of my favorites from Superfood Smoothies are:

1. Cherry Vanilla :  2 cups frozen cherries, 2 cups baby spinach, 1 tbsp almond butter, 2 cups coconut water, 1/2 tsp wheatgrass powder, 2 tbsp vanilla extract, sweetener to taste (optional). If you want a Superfood Boost, this recipe suggests to add:  1 tbsp chia seeds

2. Watermelon Cucumber (sooo refreshing!):  4 cups cubed seedless watermelon, 2 cups chopped peeled cucumber, 1 1/2 cups frozen spinach, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1 tbsp minced fresh basil leaves, 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice, 2 cups ice, sweetener to taste (optional).
Superfood Boost: 1 tsp wheatgrass powder

3.  Raspberry Almond:  2 cups frozen raspberries, 1/4 cup pitted dates, 2 tbsp almond butter, 2 tbsp acai powder, 1 tbsp cacao nibs, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 1/2 cups coconut water, 1 cup ice, sweetener (optional).
Superfood Boost:  Use dried mulberries instead of the dates

Black Elderberry Syrup: A Natural Remedy for Your Kids, That Works!

May 22, 2014
“This great tasting all-natural syrup, made from Certified Organic Black Elderberries and added Acacia honey, can be taken by children daily or on occasion to support their immune systems. Honey offers tasty and soothing support for the upper respiratory system. The formula contains no artificial flavors or colors, no preservatives, and no high fructose corn syrup.”
I’m a HUGE Gaia Herbs fan. I believe in herbal remedies & its potency to do what they’re intended to do.
Last week, my family and I were on vacation and of course, my 1 1/2 year old son developed a runny nose/cold on our 2nd day away. While we were gone I resorted to using Infant’s Tylenol for a couple of days. But I noticed little-to-no difference in his condition. When I arrived back home, I purchased this Black Elderberry Syrup— read about it here.
Elderberry is known to be very effective in supporting the immune system, and a remedy against the cold & Flu virus.
I gave my son his first dose late that afternoon, and his second, just before bed. I was pleased to see that when he woke up the next morning he had NO runny nose-Yay! I continued giving him the syrup for 2 days (he actually liked the taste too). My son recovered quickly. I was so surprised!
I definitely think Elderberry is worth keeping in your medicine cabinet. I hope you give it a try & see if you notice any difference.
*Always read labels and follow dosing instructions accordingly.
