Halloween

Happy Halloween!!!

October 31, 2014

Halloween

I just want to wish everyone a happy, safe + fun Halloween!

This will be our first Halloween in our new home – yaaayy!

I’ll be dressing up as Maleficent + my boys (Liam + Mason) will be Ninja Turtles! This year will be low-key for us. My hubby + I will be having my Mom (who just came back from Spain last night jet-lagged!), sister, niece + a couple of friends over tonight. My mom makes her yearly “Halloween Chili.” She’s been making it ever since I can remember – it is the BEST chili!

Since my baby Mason is only 8 weeks young, it’s better to stay in and have a nice family Halloween gathering…Put the kids to bed early + then let the big ‘kids’ have fun!

Happy Halloweeeeen!

Dairy-Free Pumpkin Spice Latte

Danielle Walker’s Against All Grain: Dairy-Free Pumpkin Spice Latte

Dairy-Free Pumpkin Spice Latte

My two favorite go-to cookbooks I use in my home are Against All Grain and Against All Grain:  Meals Made Simple, by the New York Times best-selling author Danielle Walker.

Danielle Walker -against all grainA brief background on what led me to a dairy-free/gluten-free lifestyle:

Danielle inspires me with her incredible personal journey that got her to where she is today ((read her story here)). Her story is similar to my husbands. He was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at the age of 23. After we got married + after witnessing what his condition was doing to him + another trip to the ER, I just had to do something! Doctors only wanted to keep my husband on prednisone steroids + told us his diet wouldn’t help his condition. We (I, AS HIS WIFE) had to prove them wrong! My husband’s health led us to a gluten-fee, dairy-free lifestyle (and led me to learn how to cook in a whole new way, practically overnight!). We’ve had his condition under control, with no flare-ups (and no steroids) since 2011! And they said diet doesn’t matter. Your diet has everything to do with EVERYTHING!

I just feel like I can relate to Danielle in more ways than one. As a mother + a person who strives to live a healthy lifestyle + keep my husband flare-up free! I’m thankful that my NEED for learning how to cook gluten-free/dairy-free + eventually, paleo led me to her!

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Ok, NOW let me get to the dairy-free Pumpkin Spice Latte! Find the recipe here.

I made this last Sunday morning + It was DELICIOUS!
I’m so happy that there’s equally delicious (if not better) recipes like this for us to enjoy. The flavors were all there! This PSL made my husband nostalgic, missing his hometown of Cleveland, OH. He use to enjoy those sugary + chemical-laden drinks this time of year from those big name coffee shops. And I did too.
This made us feel all warm & fuzzy (not guilty + like we just had 568432 calories!). It hit the spot! We can enjoy what we like in moderation + still know that we made a healthier decision. We don’t have to miss out on these sweet moments…like a PSL in the fall (even living in Florida)!!

I’m obsessed with bar carts. And if you’re on Pinterest…or living on this planet, then I’m sure you’ve noticed the popularity of the bar cart BOOM!

I personally love the whole Mad Menvibe of them. A bar cart can add instant glamour and interest to any corner of your family or living room (kitchen, patio, etc.). And you may consider using a bar cart as a tea or coffee bar instead. Don’t think you’re limited, if you’re not a booze fan, it’s ok! Think of using one as an accent table, a night stand or in the bathroom to store extra towels and bath products – the possibilities are endless. . Pinterest has plenty of great ideas to help you style your bar cart.

If you’re good at DIY projects, try refurbishing one! More ideas here.

We do like drinking wine + the occasional stiff drink or martini in my house. With the holidays just around the corner + family coming to visit, we enjoy making (and drinking) lovely libations even more. I can’t wait to get a bar cart for my home, style it (my favorite part) + show off our collection of decanters and bareware.

Lolita bar cart

I’m loving the ‘Lolita’ (pictured above). One Kings Lane has great choices for bar carts. And how about all the bar accessories – they’re so fun!

A bar cart is a must-have for your home! I would love to hear the ways you use/will use a bar cart – tell me! And FOLLOW ME ON PINTEREST – http://www.pinterest.com/petalsnpumps/

Claw Foot Tub

Simple Pleasures

Claw Foot Tub { My wonderful claw foot tub♥ }

This weekend I definitely enjoyed doing things that made me happy!

Over the weekend I was able to take a bath again. Something I hadn’t done since July (since before my son was born)! I had my bath nice + hot, with extra bubbles, a glass of white wine, some soft tunes playing + I was able to read some #GirlBoss (a great read BTW, highly recommend it!)…And boy did I enjoy all 20 minutes of it before my son woke up!

I also did a little shopping + got a few things for my kitchen from Sur La Table. Confession: (I’m OBSESSED with kitchen tools + decor)! When I walked into Sur La Table, I noticed all the Parisian-style dinnerware, bakeware + accessories – I couldn’t help but to take some pieces for my home! Confession #2: (I’m also OBSESSED with EVERYTHING Parisian. Touches of Parisian decor is just so chic + has elements of coziness in a home that I personally love).

I purchased this ‘Night Night Darling Boy’ print from Lara Casey Shop (LCS), for both of my babies rooms. I just think it’s so precious! The LCS designs inspiring products, with the purpose of reminding us what’s important in life, like faith + family. Love that! I hope you check it out.

Thank the Lord, stone crab season has begun here in Florida!!! My hubby + I took my mother-in-law (who was visiting us from Cleveland), to stuff our faces with this delicious crustacean! Crab is one of my favorite things to eat + I definitely was on a food high when I was eating those jumbo claws!
